It seems like years since the She Shops Swap event doesn’t it? It’s almost unbelievable to think that that fun night of friends and fashion happened a mere ten days before our lives were turned upside down by Covid 19. My mission with She Shops Swap was always two fold; host unique, fun fashion swaps for women to trade clothes so they don’t end up in landfill, and second to donate all the unswapped clothes to my clothing bank of choice New Circles - GLOW. Sadly, the first part of the mission is difficult to recreate in the current climate, but the second part…not so much.
Winter is slowly creeping up on us, and there’s many Torontonians who have been hit hard by Covid 19. It’s been challenging enough for residents in many Toronto communities to stay healthy and keep food on the table, now they need to start thinking about warm clothing for the coming months. New Circles has launched their Keep Toronto Warm winter clothing drive and She Shops Swap is proud to be supporting it. From today (October 19) until November 6th, I’ll be collecting new and/or gently used winter clothes (with an emphasis on coats and boots) for New Circles Glow program. Last year New Circles had roughly 8500 Toronto residents come to them in need of winter clothing. This year with the pandemic, there is sure to be more.
I’m hoping that you will be part of the warm clothing solution for our neighbours in need with me. I’m looking to collect the following (all in good, wearable condition) for women, men and children:
winter coats
winter boots
hats
scarves
mittens/gloves
warm base layer clothing - especially sweaters and hoodies for teenagers.
Have a good look through your closets (if you’re like me, you’ve already switched over) and pop by my place with your donation. I’ll have a bin on my front porch for easy peasy contact free drop offs. Unless of course you want to say hello…then feel free to ring my bell. (Wasn’t there a song from the 70’s with that title?). Please include a slip of paper with your name on it so I know who’s donated.
As a thank you for your donation, your name will be entered to win fabulous prizes from my amazing She Shops Swap partners; Beautycounter by Kerri Torrey, Creaeytions and Eliza Perry Jewellery. And I’m thrilled to include City Momma Styles, LaRochelle Confections and Charlene Kalia Real Estate to this fab line up of ladies! And of course I’ll be back again on Instagram Live with updates. So please follow along @sheshopsswap there if you’re not yet.
In advance, I thank you for being amazing and continuing to help me with my mission of keeping preowned clothing out of landfill and into the hands of the residents of our city who need it most. We need to look out for each other! Together we’re better.
