Fresh Starts

Some blog posts definitely take longer than others to write. This one has taken about a year and a half for me to sit down and put together, and I’m not even sure I have the words for it just yet. Alas, it’s time.

As most of you likely know I have been working on my sustainable fashion project She Shops Swap for over two years now. To be fair, my first swap was held in March of 2020 about one week before our lives took a dramatic shift. I came back with the second swap in June of 2022, and have held three more since then. It’s been a fun and very important event that has been attended by over 500 women. She Shops Swap has been incredibly personally fulfilling, far more than I could have every thought that cold January day I proposed the idea of a clothing swap to my dear friend Robyn. Talk about releasing the horse from the barn! And while the success of the swap keeps me planning future events, the crisis that is over consumption of fashion has truly become a driving passion of mine. It’s with that mission in mind that the time has officially come to hang up my blogger hat and move on. This site and the posts I and other contributors have brought you since 2015 have been a great source of joy for me. I have loved bringing you the best (in my opinion) in beauty, fashion and lifestyle. And to this day am very proud that vickihall.ca (the blog) was a hobby, a true labour of love and not an influencer site. Every product, piece of clothing, restaurant or hotel I recommended to you were and are one’s I truly believed in and wasn’t paid to endorse.

My hope is that vickihall.ca will become a site for my projects, posts and information on sustainable fashion. I’m not sure what will happen to all of the posts currently here, that’s for someone with far better technical capabilities than me to figure out. Believe it or not this site still brings in regular hits’s daily. In fact, in 2023 vickihall.ca had almost eight thousand page views, likely small by popular blog standards, but that was up 16% over 2022, and I hadn’t even posted once! I credit the success of She Shops Swaps for that. I have to admit, I love that my posts still show up on Google searches.

So as the year 2023 comes to a close, so does this blog. I’m very excited for what’s coming up in the new year for She Shops Swap and also for me, Vicki Hall. Undertaking new projects and pushing yourself into areas that feel unfamiliar can be scary, but the challenge can also be very exciting and rewarding.

Thank you all for your support of vickihall.ca. And for those of you who go all the way back to my very early days of blogging, Glimmer Life and Mommy X (so sad I lost all those posts - some things on the internet actually do get lost forever) will always remain a wonderful part of my past. I’ve been very lucky to have such a loyal following for over twelve years!

Now as I will bid a fond farewell to the old and embrace the promise of a fresh start, I extend my heartfelt holiday greetings to each and every one of you. The turning of the calendar not only marks the beginning of a new year but also symbolizes hope, rejuvenation, and endless opportunities.
