Introducing She Shops Swap
Have you ever needed a new outfit for an event so you asked a friend if she had anything you could borrow? Have you worn that sparkly top to a few holiday parties and now everyone has seen you in it - now what do you do with it? Have you taken some clothes in to a consignment shop and had them refused because they’re not ‘designer’ brands? Are you worried that fashion waste is the second largest waste contributor on this planet next to oil? Then She Shops Swap is the event for you!
She Shops Swap is a chic, eco friendly, curated fashion swap that I’ve created out of my concern for the impact the garment industry is having on our planet. You can read more about this in my post The Sad Side of Fashion. I regularly donate clothing to charity and I’m a regular shopper at consignment stores. But sometimes I have pieces that I don’t feel I’m ready to donate, but they aren’t ‘high end’ enough for consignment. Most of them time I end up giving these pieces away to friends, which makes me feel great because love to give. But I wanted to create a whole event around ‘sharing’ or ‘swapping’ clothes - something bigger and more impactful than just hosting ten or women in my home. She Shops Swap is a swapping event where you can come together with your girlfriends in an awesome community venue and 'shop’ clothing and accessories that have been pre approved and organized for only a small participation fee. As Fashion For Good says '“A clothes swap is one of the biggest ways you can reduce your impact on the planet through your wardrobe - not only do you divert clothes from ending up in landfill, you increase the chances of someone else (and yourself) buying less new items overall.”
She Shops Swap will be held on Tuesday March 3rd at the Amsterdam Brewery. Doors will open at 7:00 p.m. for drinks and a peek at the fashion, then the swap will begin promptly at 7:30 and run until 9:30.
Full She Shops Swap Guidelines are available here. Intake of clothing and accessories will begin the week of February and more information will be posted on Instagram, so be sure to follow @sheshopsswap for all the updates and start taking a good look in your closet for swappable clothing and accessories. I’ll be posting and appearing (yikes) regularly in stories @sheshopsswap with new swap news.
Swapping is an awesome way to breathe a little new life into your wardrobe while reducing fashion consumption. And really, how many times have you seen your girlfriend in a great top or dress and really wanted it. Well guess what…it might be at She Shops Swap!
Let’s all try to work together for positive change.
