Coffee and Cupcakes in Georgetown

So you're thinking I'm totally off my rocker for doing an entire post on DC coffee and cupcakes. Well...I might be. But I can guarantee you'll thank me for these awesome suggestions when you decided to visit Washington. So - you are welcome in advance. :) If you haven't checked out 'Reason One' yet, it's a great place to walk around after you snack on a cupcake.

Georgetown Cupcake was not the first stop on my coffee and cupcakes tour of DC. In fact I shoved a cupcake in my mouth at the very last minute. It may have been the reason I forgot the Passports at the hotel. No, come to think of it...it was the dress. The dress was definitely the reason I forgot the passports. More on the dress in another post.

Georgetown Cupcake had been the premier destination for cupcake in Georgetown since TLC turned the cupcake churning operation into a reality TV show. I've never tasted a cupcake I didn't like, so I'm not her to review...just to tell you to stop by. The cupcake are so cute you ALMOST don't want to eat them. They offer standard varieties daily and then daily specials. I was there on a Sunday, so I tried the super yummy Salted Caramel. It's become my obsession lately and I completely loved it. Totally worth the trip to Georgetown.

I've always thought that Sprinkles Cupcakes were only in ATM type dispensaries (seriously). So I was a little disappointed when I came upon their very pretty stand alone store. I was expecting a little machine in side of building, instead I actually sat down with my yummy Summer Cherry. I may have also tried the Banana...but on a different night!

On one of my morning coffee runs, I came across a sandwich board that claimed the best doughnuts in DC were right down Abbey Lane. Never dismiss a lane way or alley in Georgetown. Chances are you'll find some cute boutique, restaurant or salon. Or in my case...District Doughnut. A giant chalk arrow pointed me in the right direction. I couldn't resist. Am I so glad I didn't. Best doughnut I've ever tasted. I went with a simple sugar and it was so yummy, I could of had two. I didn't. But if you go...bring me back a dozen please!

You can't have cupcakes or doughnuts without coffee. Before leaving for DC, I did a very quick Google search for the "best independent coffee in Georgetown;" I love searching out independent's when in a new city. This simple search brought me to Baked & Wired. I went for morning coffee three days in a row. For two days it was so crazy hot that I had an amazing iced coffee served on tap. Apparently their cupcakes are legendary and I had proof of this on Saturday night when we walked by on our way to the waterfront and saw a line-up literally no less that 50 people waiting for cupcakes. Had I know this sooner I would have had one for breakfast. Instead on Sunday morning I enjoyed a super delish cinnamon pastry. The vibe at Baked and Wired is super cool. It also happens to be the spot where I met the Director of the National Holocaust Museum. You really never know who's dog you're fawning over until you ask, do you?

Don't blink when you're walking down Thomas Jefferson Ave or you'll miss Baked & Wired. It's very nondescript from the outside...but so hip inside.
