Travel Diary - Palm Spring Architecture
I'm still not over my amazing trip to Palm Springs. I wake up every morning wishing I could stroll up to Ernest's for a fresh cup of coffee taking in the silent streets (NOBODY walks in Palm Springs) and the incredible mountain view. After I fuelled up I would take a walk through the Las Palmas residential district. The mid century modern houses were very hard not to stand in front of and admire. So I didn't resist...I stood in front of many of these gorgeous feats of architecture and took them in. A few of them even have or have had celebrity owners If anything, Palm Spring is a testament to maintaining a certain style in a neighbourhood. Of course in PS, it's in every neighbourhood. It's respected and well maintained. I'm not going to give you a history lesson here, but if you want to read a little more on the architecture of Palm Springs click here. This home in the Indian Canyons neighbourhood of Palm Springs comes with it's own hashtag #thatpinkdoor. If you ever visit...make sure you post it on Instagram.
Right next door to #thatpinkdoor is this incredible home currently on the market and listed for a cool 1.4 million US. Worth every cent methinks. The back and white is so incredibly chic.
If you bought the black and white house, the people who live here would be your neighbours. I have a feeling they are pretty fun to be around. Apparently the cupcakes get substituted for other novelty items like big colourful pool tubes.
If I stood outside of this incredible home long enough...I might have met Leonardo DiCaprio. Sadly the actor mostly rents out his estate for corporate functions.
This fab home (possibly owned by Kurt and Goldie) was on my coffee walk every morning. Aren't those stairs inviting? I could have just sat there and drank my coffee in peace and tranquility, but I bet I would have been asked to leave by the gardner. Or maybe by Kurt, .but I doubt it.
This architectural masterpiece is The Kaufmann House. It's claims to be one of (if not the most) popular home in the desert and maybe even in all of the United States. It was built in 1946 for US department store magnate Edgar J Kauffman, but really came into celebrity in the 1970's when Barry Mannilow lived in it. Mandy...looks like we made it! ;)
This is Kurt and Goldie's neighbour, it was used in the filming of Ocean's 11. Remember the scene when they all first gather at Elliot Gould's Vegas home to hatch their plan to rob a casino. Yep...it's really Palm Springs!
