Steep vs. Cheap
I was working on a post for Spring shoes (coming soon) when I realized I hadn’t done a Steep vs. Cheap in a very long time. I happened to come across the perfect comparison, call it the Queen of the high/low; Golden Goose Superstar versus Steve Madden Rezume Silver Multi. Steve Madden is the King of the ‘look a like’. And good for him because not everyone can or wants to spend hundred and hundreds of dollars on shoes - especially sneakers.
Steep - Golden Goose White & Silver Superstar Sneakers $745
Italian brand Golden Goose specializes in “perfectly imperfect” (dirty) sneakers that have taken the influencer world by storm, and hence can be seen on posh feet the world over. Catch me dead before I’ll spend that much money on “perfectly imperfect” (dirty) sneakers - but hey, I said I’d never wear ripped jeans, and they’re basically all I wear now. The pair above are exclusive to SSENSE, but you also can find Golden Goose at Nordstrom for the low price of $695 for “perfectly imperfect” (dirty) sneakers! Golden Goose has also recently opened up an entire store of “perfectly imperfect” (dirty) shoes at Yorkdale Mall in Toronto. ;) BTW…there’s a rumour going around that Golden Goose aren’t really all that comfortable and take forever to break in. If you have a pair and know this to be true…or false - let us know!
Cheap - Steve Madden Rezume Silver Multi $100
Steve Madden has managed to quite successfully (IMHO) rip off the Golden Goose in the Rezume Silver Multi shoe. The sticky point is they’ve haven’t added the ‘perfectly imperfect’ imperfections, so it will be up to you to creatively scuff them up so they look a little more like the competition. But for a hundred bucks…I think it might be worth bring out the supplies and getting crafting or in this case scuffing. Luckily there’s a WikiHow for that. If you do it…send me a pic!
