Know the Drille
I think the espadrille is the quintessential summer shoe. Designed in Spain and perfected (in my opinion) in France...kidding, isn't everything perfected in France? But what is true, is the fact that the espadrille has been around since the 14th century. Once worn by peasant workers, the espadrille can now been seen on the chicest feet on the French Riveria. They can be flats, platforms or wedges, but they all have one distinct trait...a rope like detail on the heel. Espadrilles came into fashion in the 1940's when Lauren Bacall wore a flat pair with ankle lace in the movie Key Largo. I love a wedge espadrille with summer dresses but NEVER EVER with shorts. Sorry...have I said that before? Here a few of my favourites from this season:
Oh hello you pretty shoe!!! This gorgeous espadrille by Castaner is truly fit for a Princess and has been seen on Duchess Kate and her super stylish sister Pippa Middleton. Because the sisters are super chic, they don't tie the ribbon up the leg (bad). They simply wind it around the ankle (good). While you can't actually order these to be shipped to Canada - I was required by law to show you the best espadrille available. Just doing my job ladies. This style runs about 100 Euros. You can actually find a direct rip off of this shoe at Nordstrom. Only you and I will know they're not Castaner. ;)
Look...I found you something similar from J Crew and currently on sale for $137.00. The stripes are super sweet and nautical. You're welcome!
If you like a platform shoe, this Brandie Espadrille by Kristin Cavallari from Nordstrom is very cute. I love it blush, but it's also available in black suede and hot pink (no thank you) but you might like it.
I would be totally remiss if I didn't include a pair of beauties from Barcelona Collective. The Menorca have the perfect 2.5" heel for both style and comfort. I love the black/tan combo.
