How to wear a Kimono — v i c k i h a l l

The Kimono. I'm having a serious love/hate relationship with this wardrobe piece. Every time I try one I feel like I'm walking through a field at Coachella. But it turns out that music festivals aren't the only place you can wear kimonos. They are the perfect alternative to light jacket in the spring, a sexy beach coverup, and that one simple piece can elevate an otherwise dull pants and tank for an evening out. Most kimonos come in amazing patterns and flowy fabrics, otherwise they would just be another dull topper - that's what makes them special.

I bought this one last summer at Anthropologie. I liked that it was short and I felt comfortable wearing it with shorts and a tank in the summer. I don't have much pattern (or colour) in my wardrobe - so this was actually pretty daring for me. I have to admit, at first I felt like I was wearing pyjama's out of the house (hence the 'hate' part of my love/hate relationship) but I got over that pretty quickly. And just in case you were wondering - I do have shorts on in this shot. :)

Wearing this much colour (especially pink and purple) and pattern is a HUGE departure for me...but I also garner many compliments when I wear it. It's basically like wearing a big scarf with arm holes, and you do feel quite glam strolling down the street with the wind blowing through you. I feel like this is definitely a more boho inspired kimono and loved it paired with my ripped jeans.
