Dear Glimmer...
Dear Glimmer...
I need help. I am a curvy girl and having my 50th birthday at the end of February. It is at a casual, local pub with seventy of my closest friends. I want to wear something cool and sexy, but not too sexy. Something that helps me looks slimmer. Where is the best place to shop for jeans and boots? Can you help?
Signed,
Fab at 50
Dear Fab at 50,
I recently started watching Grace & Frankie on Netflix. Actually who's kidding who...I totally binged watched the entire series after "girl crushing" on Jane Fonda in the first episode. Seriously, Jane Fonda is my latest obsession. She's plays 70 in the series, but is 78 in real life. This woman has swag that could easily pass for 50. So with Jane in mind...50 is really 30, and in reality they are both just numbers. It's really all about attitude. But while I can't spoon feed a youthful attitude to you, I can help you look fabulous at your party.
You've mentioned your party is at a pub, so I think we should keep it sexy and casual. For me, sexy is an attitude, not a style of dress. Some day's I feel sexiest in jeans and a tee. Slutty is a style of dress, and I promise to keep you far away from that. Let's focus on amazing booties because any outfit gets amped up with awesome shoes. And while you might think people aren't looking down there...they are! I love a peep toe pair at this time of year because you can carry them into Spring. But you can also score some terrific deals on closed toes shoes right now.
It's no secret I'm a huge fan of black, it's my go to colour. A v-neck black blouse with a pretty statement necklace like the Drape Collar from Stella & Dot (shown above) is very subtle but sexy. I love the long chains falling down into your décolletage. If you're not in love with your arms, go with long sleeves. You can love your arms a little more at this time of year if you regularly apply a moisturizer with a little bronzer in it. Jergens Natural Glow is a good choice and available at your local pharmacy.
So now that we've covered you top and toes, let's move along to your booty...shall we? You mention you're a "curvy girl" so I think you need pair of jeans to both lift in the back and contour the front. I consulted with a fabulous "curvy" girlfriend who suggested you try Not Your Daughter's Jeans. She loves them! NYDJ's LiftTuck technology helps lift the booty while flattening your tummy. I thank my boys every day for the lovely badge of honour (aka tummy) they've gifted me, we would all love a little Kendall Jenner belly once in awhile. In Canada NYDJ's are available at Hudson's Bay. Check them out, try a few different styles on and see which you feel sexiest in.
I wish you a bliss filled birthday...50 truly is fabulous.
