Balm That's Da Bomb

Balm That's Da Bomb

It’s almost unbelievable to think that Toronto has been in it’s second lockdown of the pandemic since November 23rd, and the entire Province in a Stay At Home order since December 26th. That’s A LOT of time indoors….and outdoors. Since there really isn’t anywhere to go, many of us having been spending time escaping our overly familiar walls by getting outside. Whether it’s on multiple walks a day, snow shoeing, tobogganing or ( if you’ve been lucky enough to get a time) a glide around a community skating rink - we might be spending more time outside this winter than during your average winter…not withstanding the ski set obvi. With all this time spent outside, our faces have likely been taking a bit of a hit from the icy air.

I’ve always liked layering a coat of moisturizer or face balm (over my sunscreen) on my cheeks, nose and any other exposed areas before heading out. In the ‘olden days’ before I discover clean beauty I used a barrier repair moisturizer from a company I won’t name (Dermalogica). To be fair, it does contain evening primrose oil, but it appears on the ingredient list after seventeen ingredients I can’t even pronounce. BIG RED FLAG! Now I use a clean beauty brands which rely on non petroleum (vaseline - ew) ingredients like shea and coconut butters as well as oils that hydrate like sunflower, olive, rose and avocado.

A thick balm is an awesome product because it can be applied right over your makeup (if you’re still wearing it) and it leaves your skin smooth and glowing - even after a long walk or day on the slopes in the bitter cold. It’s worth noting (as you’ll see) that balms can be expensive, but a little bit goes a very long way. Another bonus; balms aren’t just for faces. Use it anywhere your skin is dry including hands, elbow, feet and especially super dry winter cuticles. It’s totally multi-purpose. Here are some of my pics (every first ingredient is either a butter or an oil) :
