What’s the best way to beat the winter blah’s? Why eat delicious food of course! Reservations are now open for Toronto’s semi annual restaurant festival Winterlicous. The other side of that equation being of course Summerlicious. Winterlicous runs from January 25th to February 7th. I try to get to a couple of lunches in each year, usually choosing restaurants I’ve been jonesing to try. Although who can resist Auberge de Pomier - year after year after year…not I - that’s for sure. Lunch time reservations are usually easier to secure for the more popular spots. I’m lucky that my schedule allows for extended lunches. Shhhhh…don’t tell my husband. So I’ve perused the participating restaurant and here are my top picks from the lunch menus…although the dinner options at these restaurant’s are equally delicious.

Bloom - 2315 Bloor St. West

Any restaurant that has churros on the menu is worth the drive. If you’re love Spanish/Latin cuisine then perhaps we should make the trip out together. The garbanzo and chorizo soup is sure bet for cold winter day followed up with the vegetarian enchilada. Ole indeed!

Cluny - 35 Tank House Lane

I know the first thing you’re thinking…Vicki has NEVER been to Cluny? Believe it or not - I haven’t. I’ve been to every other resto in The Distillery, but some how Cluny has been left off. So I suppose Croque Madame and a Bittersweet Chocolate Gateau for dessert. Merci beaucoup!

Drake Hotel - 1150 Queen St. West

I hear they let the Mom’s in at lunchtime and I can’t say no to a Green Godess Salad. Keeping it veggie for this lunch I think I’ll try the Spaghetti Squash entree. Since I’ve already had a chocolate dessert at Cluny - how does the Rum Roasted Pineapple sound? Just about right!

The Chase - 10 Temperance St.

If the Bay Street crowd doesn’t do it for you, then I would keep The Chase off your list. But since it’s been on my list for awhile - this is as good a time as any to try it out. I have to start with the Lobster Cobb (I could probably end there too) followed by the Shrimp on Toast. Sounds fun doesn’t it. Much to my delight - there’s a coconut cream pie for desert. Get in my tummy!

The Living Room - Windsor Arms Hotel

I love trying out hotel restaurants if only for the people watching. You always get a wide variety from travellers to locals. This is a pretty classic menu so how about going with the Char Grilled Chicken Supreme and pumpkin creme brûlée for dessert. Because if you know me - you know I never pass up a creme brûlée.
