Day Twenty Three - My pet peeve.
Dare I even say my pet peeve is when people don't return their shopping carts to the 'cart coral' in the parking lot of the grocery store? Some of your 'Leasiders' might appreciate that if you belong to a certain Facebook group. If not, let me share with you what my real pet peeve is. Book clubs. There, right out in the open I've admitted they 'peeve' me. Now, before every member of my book club (yes...I belong to a book club - ironic, I know) becomes disgusted in me...let me explain. I hate being told what to read. Hate it! Even Oprah couldn't tell me what to read in her book club days. I have a stack of books that are waiting for me to crack them open, but when you're in a book club, you have to read the book that one of your fellow members has chosen. What if I don't like the choice? What if it's Science Fiction or Fantasy, books I just can't get through. Full disclosure here...I've never read the Lord of the Rings Series. I can't stand talking animals unless they are in children's book. Is there even talking animals in Lord of the Rings? Well if there isn't...there's Golem, and he just grosses me out. My reading time is precious and I want to make sure I fit in all I want to read in this lifetime. I supposed I don't have to read the book club book and just show up and drink the wine. After all, it is called the More Wine, Less Book Book Club. And I love the women in my book club. Smart, funny, sassy, I look forward to getting together with them (that's why I joined), but the book part...ugh! Guess what tonight is? You got it, book club night! I'm a hundred pages into this months selection and have eight hours to finish it - and I should probably shower at some point. The book is actually very good (hate admitting that). It's Shanghai Girls by Lisa See and I need to finish it so I can at least listen while I'm drinking my wine, even though it's 'peeving' me the whole time. Maybe I'll start a dinner club? Who's in?
