Spring Break Essentials
I'm so ready to hit the air and then hit the beach. Maybe it has something to do with the twelve hours of sunshine we had in January? Not so good for the soul. I don't usually pack until the day before we leave, and this year I'm making a concerted effort to "pack light." I don't really need fourteen different outfits for a seven day trip...do I? It'll be tough - but I have faith in my editing skills. Truthfully I have no editing skills. I'm going to wing it. But there are a few vacation essential I absolutely won't leave home without including; bikini's (obi), a sun shirt (new to my list this year) a couple of fab cover-ups, a great hat and the best sunblock money can buy. One for my body and one for my face. Considering the care I take with my skin (face and body), keeping it protected is very important to me.
Sunscreen
Elta MD skincare Broad Spectrum Sunscreen is the Number 1 Dermatologist recommended sunscreen on the market. It's not "better beauty" (organic) but it is paraben-free and fragrance free which is good. The best part of this sunblock the 9% transparent zinc oxide content. Zinc is the only ingredient that truly blocks UV rays. It's goes on smooth with no white traces at all. The facial sunscreen is lightweight and oil free and goes on beautifully under makeup. This brand is particularly great if you regularly 'treat' your skin. I treat (as in treatment) my skin to regular Laser Genesis facials, so I really want to protect it when I'm on vacation. If you use botox or fillers - it's also in your best interest to use the best sunscreen possible and minimize direct exposure to the sun.
Bikini's
For me, a black bikini is as essential as a little black dress, but I wanted one that didn't look like I was wearing lingerie to the beach. So I went to visit Leah at Melmira and she came up with this fabulous Shan combo for me. The bottom is perfect...you all need it. It's an essential and can mix with a multitude of bikini tops. Along with the adorable bandeau with subtle ruffle detail, Leah also found me a great black and white graphic Seafolly bikini top that looks cute with these bottoms.
Sun Shirt
Lemon yellow sun shirt I adore you!!! I ordered this from J. Crew. See my previous post on the importance of rash guards. This will be great to pop over my bikini top for mid-day walks along the beach or even the odd beach volleyball game I may participate in.What? The kids want me to play! ;)
Sun Hat
I think I've found the perfect packable straw hat, also from J Crew. You can mush this hat up in your suitcase and it pops right back to shape. I'm usually a fan of wearing a baseball hat, but I thought I would class things up this year. The small/medium was still a bit big on my head, and it's important they fit snug so they don't blow away. I did a quick search on google on how to size a hat..a voila - it's perfect now.
Cover Up
I love cover-ups. They're like cute, comfortable little mini-dresses. I bought this red number with pockets at Target last year but didn't wear it very much last summer. I prefer coverups with long or 3/4 length sleeves and I generally choose short styles to long. Long cover-ups seem a little more formal to me and I feel like my legs are one of my better features, so why not show them off! :)
Happy Spring Break!!!
