I know you've been anxiously waiting for the "after" pics of my now very organized bathroom vanity. See the "before" post here in case you missed it. I'm so sorry it's taken me so long to get this together. I can assure you that Robyn from in its place had all the purging and organizing done in about two hours from the time she checked back into my master bathroom.
My side...love how everything is organized and easy to get to.
My husband's side. As you can see, he's very low needs under the sink. His travel kit, contact lenses, mouthwash and razors are his. We've stored sunscreen and toilet paper on this side too.
I love the bin of cleaning supplies that pops in right in front to the bins. I can easily remove this bin for cleaning the bathroom.
Here are Robyn's tips for an organized vanity:
1. Under the sink is difficult to get to, so reserve it for items rarely used. Storage places and solutions need be accessible so items can be put away as easily as retrieved. This is with the exception of hair dryers and large hairspray cans if they won’t fit higher up.
2. Store like items, or categories, together so that a) family members know the organization system and can ‘work it’ on their own; saving you time and frustration in managing this on your own, and b) you easily know the quantity on hand; saving you money on unnecessary duplicates. This is especially important for medicines that you need to get quickly even though less frequently, and need to be reviewed for expiry dates on a regular basis.
3. Categories of items that can be stored here are: nail care, specialty hair and face products used on a less frequent basis, medicine, miscellaneous supplies (hot water bottle, hair trimmers), suntan lotion and bug spray, cleaning supplies and toilet paper, and excess supply of items.
4. When it comes to storage solutions, you can pick between lid and non-lid containers.
o Lidded containers are best for collections that you will need to look through or take to another room to use. E.g. nail care, medicine
o Non-lidded containers are best for collections that will stay in place and you need to be able to easily grab and put back.
Cosmetics Drawer
Above is my cosmetics drawer. I was hesitant when I saw that Robyn actually organized my makeup by category and took it all out of the basket I had it in. I liked pulling the basket out of the drawer and putting it one top of the vanity while I did my face. But I have to admit...this system is so much better. No digging around for anything - I just open the drawer and it stays neat and tidy. I found it really convienient when I was going away overnight and needed to grab my makeup quickly and pop it not a cosmetics bag. Everything I needed was easy to find.
This is the top drawer of the vanity that I share with my husband. You can see his everyday things are easily accessible on the left and mine on the right. Hair elastics and clips have their own separate bin. This shot looks similar to the before, but it's definitely been culled back. Very tidy and I'm loving that everything has it's place.
