Dear Glimmer....

Dear Glimmer,

I need your help with my eyes. Don't worry, I can see just fine, it's the dark circles that are really beginning to annoy me. I get at least eight hours of sleep at night, so I just don't know what could be causing this. My concealer doesn't seem to be helping. Any ideas on how I could I can hide these unsightly circles?

Signed,

Dark Circles for Days

Dear Dark Circles,

I  love your question. I too have dark circles under my eyes and I definitely get enough rest...sorry, didn't mean to brag about sleep (especially if you're menopausal). One of the most common causes of dark circles after age fourty, (if you're rested) is thinning skin and loss of fat and collagen in that very delicate area. I hate losing things, but collagen is at the tippy top of my list these days.  The darkness is caused by the red and blue blood vessels under the skin, so in order to cover them up...you need more that just a concealer - you need a corrector. I was completely blown away at how amazing colour corrector is for under eyes.

Colour corrector generally comes in five shades depending on your skin tone and what colour you are trying to cover up. Corrector brightens the eyes! See the chart below:

Because I have pale skin and dark blue circles - I use a corrector with a peach tone. Corrector is applied first, before concealer or foundation. I love this video from Bobbi Brown Cosmetics showing how to apply corrector and cover up circles. I have to admit, I wish they'd used a forty-someting model instead of a twenty-something with no circles, but it will give you a very good idea how to proceed with application.

When it comes to a concealer for over the corrector, I also recommend Bobbi Brown Concealer with Serum. Why not add a serum where you can right?

Hope this helps!

Happy Friday...

P.S. I love all of Bobbi Brown's makeup tutorial videos on YouTube. You don't have to be a teenage girl to learn something new about cosmetic application! ;)
