Moscow Mule
Maybe I'm late to the party, or the show, or whatever it is that started when I was about nineteen...but until I went to Palm Springs earlier this month, I had never heard of a Moscow Mule. I didn't think this was such a big deal, but apparently it's a highly coveted libation. Suffice to say I did not try one while on vacation, I stuck to my trusty Margarita made by the most adorable bartender on the planet. I couldn't very well go and switch cocktails right in the middle of it all..could I? So this brings me to my current state....researching the Moscow Mule.
Apparently a Moscow Mule has absolutely nothing to do with either Moscow or mules. And while I've heard of Ginger Beer, I'd never actually tried it or knew where to buy it. So I posted the question to my closest friends on Facebook; "where do you buy Ginger Beer?" No beating around the bush here. Within moments I had several suggestions. Love the power of social media, especially the friend who suggested I try Hogsmeade...and tell them Hermione Granger sent you! ;) Get it? Butter beer...ginger beer. Yah, you're smiling!
It appears you can buy Ginger Beer at your local grocery store, or specialtly food shop. I decided on Fever-Tree, a premium brand made from three types of ginger. Did you even know there were three types of ginger? I was only familiar with one - ginger ale. Fever-Tree Ginger Beer is available at Metro here in Toronto. So with the all of the ingredients on hand (vodka, ginger beer and fresh lime) I should probably get busy and start mixing. Not so quick friends. It appears that a Moscow Mule is best served in a copper cup. There are currently no copper cups in my bar cupboards - so the Mule will have to wait while I find the perfect cup.
Have a fabulous weekend...and by all means, if you have copper cups on hand - try the Moscow Mule recipe from the Fever-Tree website and report back please!
P.S. I'm not even going to get started on the Dark & Stormy....
