Inspirational Artisans

It was a cold and icy day in Toronto today. The kind where you want to just make a cup of tea and crawl into bed with a great book...or possibly the last few episodes of House of Cards Season 4. Instead I chipped the ice of my car, picked up my bff and off we went to the One of Kind Show Spring and Sale - even though it was anything but Spring outside.   I haven't been to this top of the line artisan fair in a very long time, so I was anxious to see what was new and wonderful in the world of one of a kind Canadian made goodies. I've brought you my top picks...in no particular order - with the exception of the number one. :)

1. bookhou

I found myself totally drawn to all the wonderful items made from gorgeous textiles, bookou being my absolute favourite. There's just something so wonderful and organic when the bag you're carrying has been designed and made by a Canadian artisan.  I also love the little plant holders (bottom right photo).

2. Hatchet Made

In keeping with the gorgeous textile theme, I was really drawn to the pretty patterns on these sweet pouches at Hatchet Made. The gorgeous photo above is the OOAK both from this Hamilton based designer.

3. Olive Authentique

I was already familiar with this Canadian made natural skin care line.  I've been ordering their lavender hand sanitizer online for awhile now, so I was pleased to experience the full line in person at the show.  I love the fragrance of the Spa Blend line...it's a gentle blend of eucalyptus, mint and lavender.

4. Coal and Canary

I wanted to buy one (or six) of these yummy scented candles so badly...but I can't burn soy wax in my house. :(  Based in Winnipeg, Coal and Canary candles are hand poured in small batches and use a wooden wick (I had never seen this before) that creates a sweet crackling sound when burning. These hipster candles in fragrances like Baguettes and Sunsets, Peach Pies and Cute French Guys, and my personal favourite Gimme Some Sugar. They received some star power whey they were included in the Oscar Nominee's gift bags this year.

5. samyoga

I'm a complete sucker for anything yoga related...so samyoga can call these adorable hand dyed pouches "class clutch" and I automatically imagine my cell phone, my Olive Authentique hand sanitizer and my keys safety tucked away in it during a Hatha class. Adorbs!
