Dear Clarisonic....I'll Miss You!

Friends…the Clarisonic is no more. Cue sad face emoji. My trusty facial exfoliator has been retired by the company to electronics heaven. It’s probably sitting somewhere with a pile of crimping irons right now. Apologies if you still use your crimping iron. At the end of September, Clarisonic ceased it’s operations. I was wondering why new units and refill heads were on sale ALL SUMMER at Shoppers, yet I failed to stock up on any replacement heads. My device, which has been part of my skincare routine for at least ten years, is still in perfect condition. That definitely says something about the quality of the Clarisonic. Most relationships don’t even last that long! But with the inability to replace the head…it time for a new facial cleansing brush. Not everyone is a fan of an electronic skin cleanser/exfoliator, but I can’t live without mine. As my skin has aged over the past ten years (sadly it does that), I only use it a few times a week, but it’s still a valuable addition to my routine. Here are my top picks to replace the Clarisonic if you have one, or would like to add an electronic skin cleanser to your skincare regimen.

PMD CLEAN (pictured above)

This is my top pick for two reasons. First it’s silicone (I know, not environmentally friendly - but I plan on having it for many years) so it’s hygienic, antibacterial and hypoallergenic. You also will not have to replace brush heads - big bonus! With 7000 vibrations per minute (for your face!!!) it will provide your skin with an outstanding cleanse. I chose the the Clean Pro 1 for myself. The smooth side is used to massage serums gently into your skin with patented Active Warmth technology. Does this make my jade roller obsolete? I’ll let you know. And second, if you send them a pic of your Clarisonic, they’ll send you a 35% off code. I liked that because the PMD Pro is not inexpensive at $149 USD and smart marketing always impresses me. The PMD charges via USB charging cord which is included. Charge your phone then charge your cleansing brush!

FOREO LUNA MINI 2

The highly rated Foreo is also made of silicone - which is said to be 35% more effective for hygiene. This unit has eight intensities so you can customize based on the needs of your skin. For example if you’ve just completed an intense workout, you might want a higher intensity vs. your nighttime cleansing routine where you might require a gentler cleanse. This unit also needs to be charged, but you’ll get 300 uses from a single charge. $159 at well.ca.

URBAN SPA WOOL FACIAL BRUSH

If you’re not a fan of an electronic facial cleansing device, fear not; I’ve got you covered. The Urban Spa Facial Brush is an inexpensive alternative and can provide a good exfoliation. Simply apply cleanser and massage into your skin in circular motions. Make sure you dry it throughly between uses to prevent the build up of bacteria. At $15.95 a manual face brush is a good alternative.

KEEP TORONTO WARM CLOTHING DRIVE UPDATE

There are still three more days to donate to the Keep Toronto Warm clothing drive supporting New Circles. I’ve received an outstanding amount of donations of great quality, warm winter clothing. Thank you so much to my community of Leaside and neighbouring Davisville Village for your generous donations. For more information click here or follow @sheshopsswap on Instagram.

Big thanks to Access Storage Leaside for their very generous donation of a storage locker for me to keep sorted donations in before delivery. The storage area is clean, warm and easy to move in and out of. It was exciting to run out of space in my garage…and then watch it fill up again, all the while knowing I could move donations to storage.

30 bags ready for donation!
