Do we share some favourites? If so, you may like to hear my musings on what I’m currently reading and watching and devoting my precious free time to.
The events of the past year (COVID-19, racial inequality, U.S. politics) have had an impact on how I choose the content I consume. Prior to 2020, I gravitated towards reading historical fiction – mostly books about WWII (My husband once asked me how many books I planned to read about The Holocaust – I replied “all of them”). I firmly believe that history repeats itself and that we must learn from history and herstory to understand our current realities. Although I will continue to read historical fiction, I am making a conscious effort to expand my reading horizons. My word for 2021 is “intentional”. My goal is to choose books that will both entertain me and educate me. My reading goals include reading fiction and non-fiction books by diverse authors. If you’re interested in “intentional reading”, I recommend looking at Indigo’s 2021 Reading Challenge which includes reading books by Black, Indigenous, Transgender or Non-Binary, LGBT2+ authors.
My hope is that we can all get through this pandemic safely and find moments of joy wherever we can. There has never been a better time to become a bookworm!
