Trending: Fall Fashion

I know it’s been so crazy humid outside in Southern Ontario for the past couple of weeks, but lets pretend for just a moment that we’re in Alberta where there is snow. Are you there? I know it sucks, but think of the fashion for just a wee movement. Cuddly and cozy and warm - love it. There are some amazing trends coming at us for Fall and I wanted to take just a shallow dive with you into some of my faves. I was going to try NOT to shop at all - but that was a fail the moment I stepped into Anthro the other day. Shhhhh…don’t tell my husband. I’m really loving the trends for the fall season. They are wearable and only have to add a few pieces to bring you up to speed. Here are my current faves:

  • The Teddy Bear Jacket

LOVE, LOVE, LOVEing this trend and I’ll most certainly be partaking in it. In fact I think it might be my new fave arena coat. The faux shearling texture is great at any age and lends itself perfectly to the oversized trend that’s carrying through from Spring. Everyone you see will want to hug you. And can’t we all use an extra hug?

  • 80’s Western Wear

They say that if you’ve worn the trend once in your life (like way back in your 20’s) you probably shouldn’t repeat it (like right now in your late 40’s). I of course say ‘screw that.’ I’m so excited about the Western trend - especially Cowboy Boots. I love them in my teen and twenties and I’m ready to hop right back on the horse. With that said…it’s likely the only part of the Western Wear trend you’ll find me in. I intend on wearing these beauties an upcoming Luke Bryan/Sam Hunt concert. Jealous? You should be!

  • Animal Prints

I have a love/hate relationship with animal prints and I only own one piece of leopard prints. A few years ago I bought a Clare V Flat Clutch in Leopard and I love it. I use for both dress up and casual and it gets better with age. BUT I have never worn a animal print on body. If and when I do wear prints - it’s usually floral or camo. Animal prints are kinda like cutting your hair to me. You do it/wear it when you get to a certain age. What age is that you ask? I used to think it was around fifty, but now that I’m edging towards that number…let’s say sixty. But if you love it…please wear it and own it.

  • Red

Yep, that’s right - the colour red. Again, I will say I’m not a fan and I think I own one red top and I bought it because the print on it is teeny tiny dog prints, but you would never know. The red on trend for this season is the full on Lady in Red (Chris DeBurgh playing in the background) solid red.

Zip Shift Dress - Joe Fresh $49.

  • Statement Coat

If you new Teddy Bear jacket don’t make enough of a statement for you, or if it’s just not your thing, then there are a truly fab selection of statement coats out there for you. I’m not saying you need to move your classic camel coat to the back of the closet, but why not add a coat with great print to the mix? Perhaps a classic plaid (also super hot for fall) or a geometric. Check out Zara and Top Shop for some fun coats at reasonable prices.
