You Can Leave Your Hat On

"Seriously, I like to wear hats so I don't get super tan. You have to protect the face." ~ Alessandra Ambrosia

You have to protect the face! I love that quote. I'm all about protecting the face from lines and spots and let's face it - melanoma. While the first line of defence for me is daily SPF (that I reapply during the day), the second during the summer months and when I'm on vacation in a sunny destination - is definitely a hat. I'm not really a 'hat person', meaning I can't just toss any hat on and look good. But I have found a few that I can get away with, and if I'm outside - it's very likely you'll see me in a hat...protecting my face.

This is one of the first hats I bought several years ago from J Crew. It has a very wide brim, so I find it difficult to travel with. These days it mostly makes an appearance when I'm working in the garden. This style is no longer available at J Crew - but they have other wide brim options available.

Also from J Crew, and seen all over my Instagram (@glimmerlife) is the Packable Straw Hat. This hat is one of my favourites, although when a hat says it's 'packable', don't actually believe it. It's best to carry your hat with you. I've tried packing hats and it doesn't really work. If you love and value the brim of your hat - carry it!

I'm seriously ecstatic how the latest addition to my hat collection covers my face!!! This beauty is the Classic Squishee Packable Fedora from Eric Javits. I will not ever pack this hat because nothing about it feels squishee to me. The elasticized inner band fits my head perfectly and my hair doesn't get all messy upon removal - that's worth the price of admission for me!

If you're in the North Toronto area and looking for a great summer hat - I suggest you swing by Snapdragon on Mount Pleasant.  They have some sweet choices including the fabulous Pom Pom hat (above) worn by Snapdragon owner Pam.

I know you're thinking "what the?" but stick with me here. I tried on this Charlene Roll Up Visor at Anthropologie. And for under $50.00 - this is a truly packable and portable option AND it looked really cute to boot! I am considering of these for golfing if I can find one with a smaller brim.

P.S. I have a Beautycounter SPF Stick to give away! All you have to do is name the movie that included the song - that the title of this post comes from. Email it to vicki@glimmerlife.ca. I'll notify the winner by Friday June 8th. Good Luck!
