That's a Wrap (Dress)

One of the items on my 'fashion bucket list' - yes, that's a thing...is a Dianne Von Furstenburgh (DVF) wrap dress.  DVF designed this iconic dress in 1974 - and it's been a classic ever since. It has literally have never gone out of style. While the $600+ price tag might give some people sticker shock (remember it is designer - after all) designer consignment shops are a great starting point to browse for her dresses. I have seen them at ExToggery for around $295. I think this is a great price point for a time-honoured addition to your closet. Today her wrap dresses come in many different incarnations - but I would likely stick with the classic, it screams DVF - obvi!

Of course many designers have copied this style - in many different ways. The first wrap I bought was at  J. McLaughlin in Georgetown, DC.  It was about $250 US and had a very DVF look - which is what drew me to it. After a quick look at the their website - I don't see any style similar to it right now. For the record, this is a great store to shop at if you're looking for styles with an 'east coast' flare to them.

Here are some of my current fave wraps:

I love this DVF  Eloise Silk Wrap Dress (even though it's not the 'classic' style). The colour is spectacular - especially if you're a brunette. Available at The Bay for $648.

This MLM Naomi Wrap Dressis short - so if you're not a fan of your legs (I know not everyone loves theirs) maybe take a pass on this style. The pattern is very on point for the season. Also available at The Bay $365. BTW - Hudson's Bay has an amazing selection of dress if you don't want to jump from store to store.

Again, not a classic wrap - but absolutely gorgeous for summer. This Polo Ralph Lauren Floral Silk Wrap Dress(again The Bay) reminds me of the Oscar De La Renta dress that Megan Markle wore to a wedding recently. It almost has that delft blue pottery look. $495.

From Nordstrom I chose the Carina Mid Wrap Dress by Reformation. How cute it it with black espadrilles? You already know I don't love them tied up the calf...but I'll excuse it for now. $302.

I love this Ann Taylor Flutter Sleeve Wrap Dress. The moss green is so chic, but if it's not your colour - it's also available  in a bright blue that would look gorgeous on anyone. Pair with creme espadrilles-drool!  $137.

Our wrap dress 'Queen' in Toronto is the one and only Heather from Dotty Dress Studio. This amazing Navy Floral Wrap is only $98.00. Dotty's pieces are amazing for travel and easy to hand wash at home. No expensive dry cleaning required. Love that!!!
