Best In Brit

So...have you had enough of the Royal Wedding? Did you wake up at 5 a.m. on Saturday to watch Oprah arrive? I did.  Which dress did you prefer? The ceremony dress or the evening dress?  I think I'll save my opinion for a Best Dressed post later this week. I'm still collecting my thoughts. In the mean time, my immersion in all things royal has got me thinking about the Brit imports I love. I guess the first thing would be that my parents actually met and wed in Birmingham England. My oldest brother was born in Birmingham, and my paternal Grandfather is buried in Wales. So I guess you could say there is a wee bit of Glimmer in the UK.  I grew up drinking tea, my mother wore a Mac (not a coat) and when I was feeling under the weather, we took a walk to the chemist, not the drug store. So with a little bit of Britain in my blood...here are some of my current Brit picks.

Pimm's

Have you ever been strolling through the LCBO (or any liquor store) and wondered what the what is Pimm's? Or maybe you've seen the cocktail Pimm's Cup on a beverage menu and wondered what the what is that? Pimm's is a gin based beverage infused with herbs that when mixed with lemonade (traditional) or ginger ale (North American - I think) becomes a Pimm's Cup. The beverage is often garnished with cucumbers, lemons and strawberries which makes it the perfect summer cocktail. Pimm's was created in 1823 in England by James Pimm. Thank you James!

Yorkshire Gold Tea

I grew up drinking tea. Well mostly milk with a little tea added for colour. My earliest memories of childhood include drinking tea from a bottle. We were mostly a Red Rose family, but my Brit gf Bella (shoutout) introduced me to Yorkshire Gold several years ago and I haven't' looked back since.  Yorkshire Gold is finally available at most grocery stores if you want to give it a try. I know for a fact it's definitely at Sobey's along with a curated selection of British Foods to try. Authentic HP anyone?

Butter London

You know I love safe and effective beauty products, right? Well Butter London is a great choice if you're looking for a high performance nail polish that comes in loads of amazing colours.

Jo Malone Candles

For her, for him and for the home. Jo Malone fragrances are top notch and the candles make you feel like you're living in a luxury hotel - all the time. Available in Toronto at Holt Renfrew.

Eyeko Mascara

I have to finally come clean - that I'm dirty. I've yet to find a 'safe' mascara that I love. So yes, I'm a tiny bit of a fraud - but I do keep trying. In the mean time, my mascara love affair with Eyeko Black Magic continues. I discovered Eyeko years ago as a sample in my Birchbox subscription. While I can't find it anywhere in Canada, I love it enough to order it online or I buy a couple of tubes when I go to New York.

Reiss

Most of us can't afford to buy outfits from British designers like Stella McCartney or Burberry, so for us there is Reiss. Rumoured to be a fave of The Duchess of Cambridge,  Reiss - the London fashion brand has been around since 1971, but has only recently opened stores in Canada.  I love the simplicity of the line. Classic and clean cut looks and nothing too trendy. And you know by now...I love classic clothing. Reiss also offers menswear, and a small (but classic) line of shoes and accessories.

You can find Reiss locations at Toronto Eaton's Centre, Yorkdale and Sherway Gardens.
