Dear Glimmer

Dear Glimmer,

I'm not feeling happy that it's September already for one reason; I hate wardrobe transitions. I always feel like I'm inappropriately dress. Either I have to much on, or not enough. I'm anxious to start wearing some of the new pieces I've picked up - but I feel like it's too soon. Can you give me some advice on how to make a smooth wardrobe transition from summer to fall?

Signed,

Transition Challenged

Dear Transitioned Challenge,

To be honest, I find this transition to difficult as well. It seems easier to take layers off than to put them back on, although I cringe every time I see flip flops on someone on the first warm day in April! Ugh.

So the key when transitioning your wardrobe from winter/spring or summer/fall is light layering. This is why there heavy sweaters (winter) and light sweaters (spring/fall). Seems pretty basic, right? Here are a few easy to follow tips for you:

  •  I like lightweight cashmere for season switchover. Cardigans, wraps and lightweight sweaters for evenings are best.
  • I also like to reintroduce my denim jacket. It's the perfect piece wearing over almost anything.
  • Start to bring your dark denim back into your wardrobe and put the lighter washes away for the season.
  • Introduce scarves back into your mix. Lightweight cotton or cashmere in darker colours like grey and khaki are perfect.
  • This is the perfect time of year for your open toe botties and darker shade running shoes. I'm loving the Nike Cortez right now. But your white Stan Smiths are still great.
  • Switch your bag from light colours to darker shades for fall.
  • And last, don't forget about transitioning your skin. As the day's get cooler, your skin will get drier, so keep up your moisturizing routine.

Good luck and enjoy your pumpkin spice latte!
