Day Sixteen - Dream Job

Dream job? Some people would think I am living the dream. And they're partially right. I'm very lucky to have been home raising my kids full time for the last fourteen years. But this absence from work outside the home does come at a cost. It's very difficult for a woman like me who has been out of the workforce for so long to simply re-enter into the job she once had. Trust me. I tried. And my previous industry - the live theatre industry has not changed. It's not like there's been any major technological advances in the industry. Nope...all the same. Ushers, concessions, box office...no changes. Yet recently I applied for two Front of House Manager jobs in Toronto theatres - and didn't even get an interview. It's humbling (and a little heartbreaking) to say the least. So what does a Mama like me do? Well, she starts a blog and writes for her local community newspaper of course. And I'm perfectly happy doing it.  But what if there's more out there? Is there a perfect job in the world that I might consider? At this point in my life it would likely involve working for myself. I have a little tiny dream about opening a boutique in my neighbourhood, maybe calling it Glimmer and selling all the things I love most. Cute clothes, great personal care products, books, stationary and accessories. But I think owing a business at this point would take up loads of my time, that I'm not certain I'm ready to give up. I would want to be the face of my boutique. I would want to be on the front line for customer service. I would want it to be successful because of me. And maybe this will still happen. Maybe there a place for a tiny Glimmer boutique in my life. You'll just have to stay tuned and find out.

See you Wednesday...
