Travel Diary - Maui Dining Part One

I'm suffering from Maui withdrawal...big time. I've never been to more incredible island. I was on Oahu way back in 92', but it doesn't compare of the magic of Maui.  I'm going to break up my posts on this incredible vacation, there's lot's to cover starting with dining. We by no mean's made it through all of the culinery treasure's Maui has to offer. My eldest son is anaphalyctic to eight of the top ten allergens, so this was limiting when dining out...but we made the best of it. Lots of macadamia nuts appear on most menu's, so you must be very diligent when travelling with anyone with allergies. Most restaurants were able to accommodate him. If you're gluten-free (like me) the restaurants are amazing and several had dedicated gf menu's or indicated the gf dishes very clearly on the menu. There is fresh fish, rice and fresh steamed veggies on every menu.  We were situated on the west coast of the Island and travelled from Kapalua in the north down to Lahaina. Sounds exotic...but it's actually only about a 20 minute drive from town to another. Actually who's kidding who here? It's totally exotic!!!

                               Cheeseburger in Paradise in Lahaina.

Cheeseburger In Paradise is a great, fun choice if travelling with kids/teens. Located in the popular tourist town of Lahaina, you can experience the incredible sunset from this yummy burger joint.  Here you can choose from over a dozen famous "5 napkin" burgers, plus all sorts of other easy restaurant favourites like their amazing fish tacos (which I tried on our second visit). I had the California burger with grilled pineapple and avocado...so good.  The sunset was obvously unbelievable and made a perfect backdrop to the live music playing on the second level.

Before I devoured my California Burger.

Up the road a little from our hotel on Ka'anapali Beach is Napili Bay.  This protected cove is home to the gorgeous Napili Kai hotel. In the hotel is a very quaint little restaurant called Sea House that offers one of the very best views of Napili Bay. Napili Bay is know for it's gorgeous beach and superb snorkelling. I really enjoyed the ease of Sea House. It also happened to be one of the most reasonable restaurants we went to...Maui is a pricy island. You can't beat the scenery at this restaurant, also terrific for sunset drinks. One of those drinks I experienced at lunch, it made for a very relaxed afternoon at Kapalua Bay Beach. ;)

Napili Bay Beach view from The Sea House.

My ideal gluten-free lunch...mahi mahi was wonderfully grilled and that very potent cocktail was mixed to perfection.

I couldn't resist the coconut creme brûlée. So good!

Cute presentation for Panko Crusted Fish n' Chips!

Another beautiful vista from the Napili Kai resort.

More delicious dining on Maui continued next week....my mouth is watering for that  mahi mahi right now.
