I'm a 40 something mom who wants to look fashionable (but not trendy) in the school yard and out and about. Can you please give me 3 outfit ideas for fall/winter.

Dear Meredith,

Have no fear, I'm here to answer you question in the best way I can. Let me start of by saying I was you, the mom in the school yard every day wanting to look fashionable and not frumpy. Although if I look back on old photos from when my first started junior kindergarten, I was frump city. I don't see any mom's looking that way today, especially not in my neighbourhood. So I've put together three looks that I think can easily be recreated for any budget. Remember, I put together suggested "looks" for you, but you don't necessarily have to go with the same brands. 

School Day Look One (above) is one of my favourites. Cargo pants and a turtleneck basically used to got me through the winter. My Joan of Arc Sorel boots kept my feet warm and a cute hat kept the wind out of my ears. My kids used to love to stay and play after school...even in the winter, so a hat is essential. Add a cute hobo bag for a  look chic when grocery shopping or stopping at Starbucks. It's big enough to hold all your essentials including a iPad. Now cover up your look off with a cozy warm North Face Parka (show below). :)

School Day Look Two works well if you have an appointment during the day. A slim black pant (or  high quality legging) and camel sweater look smart, but comfortable. Pop on a cute pair of booties and away you go. The large MZ Wallace tote is fabulous for holding all your 'play date' essentials or files for a meeting, while still looking great. Top off with a wooly "dad hat'. I've seen some cute ones at Aritzia. 

School Day Look 3 is for the ultimate chill out day. Drop the kids off at school, grab a coffee and then hit the grocery store, dry cleaners and walk the dog. No need to dress up. Blundstone are my favourite casual boot for winter. They magically keep you both warm and dry. A pair of boyfriend jeans paired with a graphic sweatshirt is fun and comfortable. Keep your lips a little lush with a swipe of gloss and you're good to go.
