Travel Diary - The New York High Line

My recent N.Y experience was filled with awesome individual moments. Moments that make you stop to take a deep breath and think “gosh am I ever lucky to be taking all of this in right now,” I had a few of those moments along the High Line.

The High Line is a 2.33 km park/trail atop an abandoned rail line.  Green space is such a premium in N.Y, that the High Line has become an attraction that sees almost 5 million visitors a year. At some points along my walk I was literally shimming along sandwiched between bodies. It’s not the most relaxing situation, but it’s N.Y so crowds are expected. I walked the entire stretch entering on Gansevoort after a stroll through my favourite neighbourhood in NY, Greenwich Village. The views along the High Line are quintessentially N.Y. There’s fabulous public art, incredible landscape and places to stop for a bite to eat.  I particularly loved seeing all the century old buildings along 10th Ave. in Chelsea.  The Urban Theatre seating area is a great place to rest. You can watch the yellow cabs and traffic whiz by. The High Line is a great place to get lost in all that is New York and a must for your bucket list.

If you want cute High Line souvenirs...JCrew created a collection of tee's honouring the High Line as part of their "Garments for Good" charitable program. Look good and feel good about it.
