Blame it on the Cuervo...

I had no clue what I was getting into, so I blame it on the Cuervo. ~ Carrie Underwood "Last Name" 

A cocktail, in my opinion should not be complicated. Grab the Gin, crack the can of tonic, squeeze of lime and voila! Such is not the case with a margarita, but since it is National Margarita Day (who makes up these days anyway?) - I thought I would give mixing one up at home a shot.  First let me say I absolutely love a lime margarita on the rocks. None of those frozen mixxy versions for me. And please don't wreck it by adding strawberry or other fruit. That's just a daiquiri in my opinion. Straight up lime..thank you very much.  I wasn't buying into fake lime juice either..so I squeezed two fresh limes. Now I know why I see people buying bags of limes. They are clearly margarita connoisseurs.  I also had to whip up some simple syrup. Simple enough but an extra step none the less.  I made about a cup and will keep in the fridge in a squeeze bottle for future marg cravings. It keeps for about a month. The whole salty rim was a bit of a pain as well, and you could easily skip that step. I find it unnecessary and doesn't detract from the enjoyment of my cocktail.  I picked up a bottle of Casamigos tequila without even knowing it was George Clooney and Randy Gerber's brand. The bottle looked sexier than Cuervo and you know me...it's all about the looks. I have to say...my drink, in spite of the all the prep work was delish. I could of had another...but hey, it's a Monday night!

Here is the recipe I used to create my margarita...

Ice cubes
3 ounces tequila
2 ounces freshly squeezed lime juice
1 ounce Simple Syrup, recipe follows
1/2 to 1 teaspoon orange liqueur

Shake for 30 seconds and strain over ice.

P.S.S. Apparently Casamigos tequila is all over the new Drake and Rihanna video shot a few weeks ago a the The Real Jerk (Caribbean resto) here in Toronto. So this totally explains why there was one bottle left on the shelf at the LCBO! Love when I'm on trend and I don't even know it...
